About Kune Kune Pigs

  • Kune kune  is (pronounced KOO-nee KOO-nee) and means “short round”

  • Small, hairy breed of domestic pig often found with distinctive wattles on their chins

  • From mainland New Zealand

  • Are slow growers, taking up to 2 years to fully mature

  • For meat purposes, they are considered a lard pig

  • Unlike other pigs, kunekunes can live exclusively on well-maintained pasture grass

  • Females reach sexual maturity at around 10 months old and males at around a year

  • Females have a gestation period of 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days

  • They are very social, intelligent, playful and affectionate
